Remember that leaked cinematic back in the day?

Looks like it was legit after all, having just completed the campaign today.

As you can see almost scene for scene, it is the exact same cinematic. Wonder how this big leak happened? XD

Thoughts?

Woah

I guess that's why they no longer outsource any previs work.

EDIT:
I'm also not sure what "thoughts" could be expressed. It was leaked because some idiot wanted to leak it, and was fired shortly after. That's pretty much it.

Well I mean in one of the stills, it looks like the button Acturus presses does something to some sort of deinfested clone of Kerrigan. Whereas in the last cinematic it is instead the Artifact that shocks her.

Wonder what they had going on there? :D

They wanted to suggest Kerrigan had a 'kill switch' implant that survived infestation, deinfestation, umojan lab tests and primal zerg reinfestation.
I really wouldn't mess with the continuity like that for a scene that lasts 5 seconds.

My theory:
Chris Metzen, while goring himself on donuts, decreed that the scene be made the way it was in the leak.

Blizzard patriot employee A sees how shit it is and he, or someone else, tries to tell Chris.

Chris spits and throws his donuts at anyone who corrects him. SC2 is doomed.

Employee A sacrifices himself to show the world just how shit the ending is.

World tells Chris his ending is shit. Chris doesn't have that many donuts.

Chris uses employee A's idea (who he fired), pretends it is his. SC2 is saved.

Maybe there was an early version of the story that dictated the Xel-Naga artifact simply separated Kerrigan and Infested Kerrigan, with some kind of plot trope involving good Kerrigan vs. bad Kerrigan somewhere along the line (which got switched to Duran/Narud instead, hence brief footage of uninfested Kerrigan transformation and such). Either way, the story is a bit silly to me... but it passes, I guess.

Also, totally called it.

That makes sense, I assume they would have shared a psionic bond which would cause one to feel pain when the other was injured. I'm glad they scrapped that though, since it makes no sense that the second Kerrigan would end up getting caught by Mengsk and the first Kerrigan not know about it.

What, you haven't seen any stories use a secret, "other half" plot trope before? :P

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[2026-6-21. : 4:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new

Oh_Man -- makes me wonder if SEN knows anything about the topic
