I use Sony Acid Pro 7, it's like the Photoshop of audio.

Of course it isn't free by any means, but you can always torrent it.

ᴄʜᴇᴇsᴇ ɪᴛ!

When using audacity, (use the 1.3 beta version, it's much better) there are 2 things you need to do before you import your mp3 file. Under edit->preferences (crtl+p)->Quality change the bit depth to 16 bit and change the project rate to 11025 Hz (you can modify the rate to more or less, but IMO going from 8000->11025 is like going from 11025->41000). It will sound crappy, but such is life. If you don't do it, your map is going to be enormous. SC will compress 16 bit wav files to ~45% of their normal size.

Alternatively, you can leave everything in preferences at the default and change the project rate in the bottom left corner of the screen, and change the bit depth on the left hand side of the track, under the dropdown menu. The set rate under that particular menu speeds up/slows down the audio.

Finally, if it's stereo (which it probably is), make sure you change it to mono, under the same dropdown menu (split stereo to mono). Stereo doubles the size of the file, and it's kind of pointless in SC anyway.

After you're done editing the file, File->Export and change the extension to microsoft 16 bit wav PCM. There's a LOT of stuff you can do in audacity, and in a general way, Audacity is to Sony Acid Pro 7 as GIMP is to Photoshop. Unfortunately, that's not quite accurate, as gimp does a lot more in comparison.

NudeRaider -- EUD actions, specifically. The conditions remained. Today we can even have actions again, but they're all virtualized/whitelisted (not sure on the actual technical implementation) so you can only use them for specific intended purposed, not arbitrary code injections.

NudeRaider -- I mean yes, maps - through EUDs - were theoretically able to do that as well, but that was patched quickly.

not the map, the editor

Symmetry -- I vaguely remember Voy doing some ACE back in the day, but I had no idea EUDs could do that kind of shit. I am very much catching up on the technology

yeah an editor that isn't allowed to write files sounds rather pointless, so I'd assume it can. Like most other programs too btw. and yes, obviously that's dangerous, but also kinda necessary. MS introduced that virtualization for exactly that reason.

Ultraviolet -- I don't think so. I think they shut that shit down after 1.16, maybe even earlier

NudeRaider shouted: Symmetry I can't tell if it's relevant. You provided literally no context so I was providing an equally generic answer.
