What is a good program I can use to convert screen shot files into jpeg images?

I know this might be the wrong area but it is for a map I am working on so it would assist my map making

What's wrong with pcx? Everyone can open them :-).

if I need to do smth with it I re-write it with paint. Simple.

Rather than using paint. Use a pretty little program called paint.net. It can do some pretty sweet stuff and won't overwhelm you.
