- How to publish custom maps on the public server of StarCraft II -
- This tutorial has been made for the Patch 13 users -

Quote
1) Open Galaxy Editor
2) File -> Preferences -> Battle.net
3) Replace host to: "us-beta.logon.battle.net" (without the quotes)
4) Your account is the email you use to log into http://www.battle.net/
5) "OK"
6) Open your map (finished product please?)
7) Map -> Game Variants -> Add
8) Add an icon (any) and fill all fields
9) -> Game Type: Category = Other, Mode = Other
10) Still under "Game Type": fill the 4 fields with something different than the default values you'll see (you can also edit the "Attributes" to customize properly your game)
11) "OK"
12) File -> Publish, press "Log In..."
13) Again, your account is the email used to connect on http://www.battle.net/ (or StarCraft II's beta)
14) "OK" (make sure you have selected all the desired options)
15) Connect on Battle.net
16) Multi player -> Custom games -> Create a game
17) "My Published" (in the little scroll-list)
18) Select your map + press "Create game"
19) Change the "Category" for the other choice than "Other" ("Mode" should auto-change)
20) Press "Open to public", situated to the right of "Game lobby"

There you go! =D
The 7th step (in red) is different for a Melee map. Simply press "Generate Defaults" (right under "Add") and select the 'default', you want for your map.
Some people say that you -have- to set your map to 'Unlocked' in order to publish it properly.

You may have to leave your map unlocked as well for the above to work.

Lets not open that can of worms again. Besides nobody has made anything worth stealing.

Well, my map got stolen during the very first moments of maps being published (stolen in the sense that the guy published the map without telling he's not author :P).

Btw, Yoshi, are you sure we -must- have the map Unlocked?

I'm not. When was following a tutorial on battle.net forums, the guy said you did. I never tried locking it because as you know I think locking maps is a terrible idea for the map making community as a whole.

I merely suggested it as a "if the above doesn't work, you can try this as well".

I made the Game Mode as private but unlocked. I Can't change it to public while hosting a game why?

A map my friend wants to publish says that the name isn't available no matter what I put in. I've set it to unlocked, public. What do?

You probably either want it to be "None" or "Public" and use the Party feature to host it privately. ;o

It's probably the word-filter (censor). Try to look for words like "suck", etc.
And by "name", do you mean the map's name? If so, try to look if it is already being used.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[04:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new

Oh_Man -- makes me wonder if SEN knows anything about the topic
