The sword and the faith

I give you a standard, basic, 4p XY symmetry map: Intensity

Min onlys are 9x1000 to make them have the same resource amount as the standard 6x1500.

Tried a weird mineral formation in the mains. I have no idea if its efficient or if I like how it looks. We'll see.

That's about it.

The sword and the faith

I am forcefully bumping this because SEN won't update that a new topic was posted on the index page.

I am skeptical of the main mineral formations, specifically the far-out minerals; they may screw with worker pathing and make them go behind the mineral line instead.

Looks like a macro map; no glaring imbalances at first glance. :)

The mineral formations for the main seem like you have to make more turrets/cannons than usual to deal with harassment  . Not a big deal, though.

I like it, it's definitely one of your better maps.

Could get problematic if you've got a T on 6 and a P on 3. Could easily choke and push.

The mineral formations definitely screw with probe pathing. At least, when it's on the left, maybe on other orientations as well.

The minerals are also conveniently storm-shaped O.o

The sword and the faith

I've done an update of the mineral formations. Although the ones here were nice, you'd need another field in between the two clusters and due to the mains being thin and long, it takes a lot of turret room away in 6. I think they'll work nicely on another map with some modification, just not this one.

Right now I'm doodading and decorating. I'll update when that's done.

Looks great, although in my opinion it might have looked better with two island expos in opposing corners, and the remaining corners being slightly more open.

But that's just me.

Main's look different sizes. Could be just me, but if that's true, that's a problem.

9 and 3 are bigger then 12 and 6

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[2026-6-21. : 4:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new
