How to make EUD condition not drop

I order you to forgive yourself!

Well... It's been a long time and I've never really used it for anything special so I should probably reveal a little trick I've found. How to not drop a players when using an EUD condition.

First of all, it's an indirect way of detecting the condition and it will only work for one thing at a time. Also, it will only work 45 times and may also glitch easily depending on how the map was made.

Explanation: For making your EUD condition not drop, you will be detecting lag. When the condition is met, your action will spam play a blank .wav, set a death counter to a certain number and it will create enough lag (On most computer) to make a drop box appear for all other players. This means that for all other players, the memory where the number displayed on the drop box went down (It's starts at 0 at the beginning of the game.) Using an other EUD, you detect that the number has changed (This will only be executed for the people that didn't press the key for example.), play the blank .wav and set the death counter. Now all deaths are at the same number so the real action can be executed.

Now, if a player lags for real, the action will also get executed and may cause some problems with your triggers. This is probably very hard to achieve correctly and is probably not that useful, but at least, now we know that in theory, it can be done. :D

Edit: If you use EUD enabler, you can easily reset that drop box when you want.

Yeah uh... you aren't the first one to think of this. Sorry.

I have a posting of me saying it somewhere, well... it's ALMOST 100% identical, only diff is the detection of different numbers and manipulation of those numbers. Otherwise this would be a kewl idea.

Yeah, I know, "TiKels look at the date! It's fairly old!" Yeah, my posting is older.

It's not practical. First, having a drop box pop up all the time would be annoying, second is there's no guarantee you can make someone with a high-end computer lag. There's also the possibility that both players have the same type of system and will lag equally (thus they don't have to "wait" for each other).

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?

Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.
