Five Key Design Considerations To 3d Printing Production Parts

3D Printing Parts Designing In a professional manner
Your design must account for the requirements of the 3D printing process and the capabilities of the printer you're using. More importantly, though, you'll need to consider your 3D printer's limitations. This will limit the types of prints you can print and create.

Apart from the obvious understanding of your printer and double or three-checking G codes (the instructions for how your printer works) and drawing models are crucial. Here's how to ensure that the part is designed properly.

1. Set Up an Organization Structure
The majority of 3D printing errors occur in the case where the base of an object isn't joined. Your 3D-printed part won't become mentally unstable. The entire thing could get damaged if it slips on the printer's surface, or gets thrown out of its place.

It is crucial to start by designing the base layer that will work well with your printer and then setting your printer's settings in a way to ensure a strong base adhesion. By turning off the fan during the initial layer of printing, or leveling the print beds, or adding more thickness to your base layer can aid in adhering to it.

2. Reconsider Overhangs
Overhangs are what they sound like. These are areas that hang from or are protruding from printed areas. This means they must either be made to work with the other areas mentioned or don't need support at all. SLA and FDM 3D printers have very strict limits on the length of their overhangs. They can print at 45 degrees.

If you're not designing your layout in this manner, you should consider using supports during the printing process. While this isn't an issue working with supports can be difficult.

3. Imagine Wood Grain
It is important to design parts that are sturdy when 3D printing. This involves thinking about how the part will react under normal stress and use and then designing the part accordingly. If you're not sure how to strengthen your piece, think wood grain.

The woodgrain is created in a manner that increases the durability of wood. However, the wood between the grain lines tends to be less hard and more prone to being damaged. The same goes for your component. Your part must be designed and placed inside the printer so that it's strong enough to withstand normal usage and stress. This is typically on the X- and Y-axis plane.

4. Don't forget your part in Warp
Not nearly as fun as warp speed, warping can happen during the 3d printing process on objects that have flat, larger surfaces. It's normal to happen when objects are heated and cooled and physically changed in shape as when you print 3D printing. Make sure you make sure you calibrate and design your printer accordingly.

5. Test, Calibrate and then re-test
Although it may seem simple, the last recommendation on this list is easy to overlook or forget. If you are printing an intricate object, it's recommended to test each component in isolation.

If the components fail to print well in the testing it is likely that they won't print smoothly in printing the entire part. Then, test, and then recalibrate as necessary and repeat the test to avoid using excess material. Calibration is the key to determining if you can't see the test you want to from the list.
