I think we should ignore the upside down part of it, and try to understand why the FRAGILE is backwards. I believe this is fairly significant for implicating someone as Mafia.

Ouch. I fought hard to manage to read that once through and got nothing out of it. This is all that struck me:

This is line is paradoxical ('puddles ... of epic proportions'), and the first phrase doesn't even make sense. I have no idea if this is at all significant, but it stuck out to me.

This whole story isn't some dumb allusion, is it?

Sure it does. Extremely large puddles. you can have large puddles, doesn't make them ponds.
