Map Name: Aliens - Invasion


Creator: Perseus_18

Players: 2

Concept: A playable map or series of maps that does justice to the wicked awesome Alien films!




The Aliens
In the finished map, the player will be able to control an alien hive complete with mechanics as seen in the alien films. The player will use alien drones to stealthily sneak about and 'capture' colonists and other life forms to bring back to the hive. There they will be impregnated, and after a short time give birth to a new alien. This is the alien players' only way to create more aliens, so he/she must be careful in their decisions.
Alien drones can 'feed' on life forms instead of impregnating them, to make warriors, and it's a possibility that this evolution can go further, eating or fighting to turn into tougher units.
Aliens will also spray acid when killed, damaging anything in their immediate surroundings just like in the movies.

The Marines
The marine player will have access to a squad of various types of colonial marines, armed with pulse rifles, smartguns, flamethrowers, and also using medics. They will be tasked with rescuing the colonists, therefore preventing the alien player from obtaining a needed resource. The marine's objectives will vary through the different scenarios, all employing these same game mechanics. Optional abilities of the marines will be barricading areas and placing sentry guns in defensive scenarios, and using motion trackers.

I have been working on this map for awhile, and it will be my first UMS ever submitted for criticism! I've played Aliens maps before (can't get the popular Aliens:SE by The_Effect to work for me, so don't know what it's like) but none have tried to do what I'm trying to do. Let me know what you guys think!

Expected release: Within 2 months, Beta 1.0 90% complete.

How do you expect to do the "Acid Spray" thing? And by save the colonists, do you mean a computer player?

The colonists are going to be a rescuable player, yes. The end goal is to have a map where the aliens and marines both race to secure as many as possible, the aliens to bolster their numbers, and the marines to prevent them from doing so thereby increasing their own chances of victory.

I've been working on the 'acid spray' effect for a long while. With 1 alien, it's doable, but I'm really starting to wonder if it's possible without making a mod. I'll post any progress.

But if you have more than 1 alien of the same type for the same player, it's hard to centerview location.

If you create a location which the unit can't move out of in a single trigger cycle, you can constantly center it a random unit in the location...

Conditions: Always
Actions: Center location "Unit1" on men owned by Player <whatever> at "Unit1".

The problem is that this rapidly uses up your locations, and teleporters screw it up.

Hello

sounds nice, but
many mappers tried to make a Alien vs Predator map, or sth like that, and always fail
my suggestion: its better and sometimes easier to make an AvP or Alien Mod...
good luck anyway
i'll play it when its done... then i may give a other feedback [the most mappers who done so were noobs^^]
