Mini-games

I saw some people posting about mini-games, specifically one called Zerg Pets, and mentioning a few others. Apparently, they had to be shut down because of exploits which let people get insane amounts of minerals.

My suggestion is, why are the entire games shut down? It seems that only the part which gave minerals was broken, so why not take only that part out, but leave the rest of the game intact? (If the games cost minerals to play, the cost could be lowered a lot.)

Additionally, this gives the people who have been on this site long enough to have bought all the items something to do with there minerals, rather than having them just be another form of post count.

Yes? No? Stupid idea?

So far's I can tell, the situation is that minerals are only currently and indefinitely useless.
SEN's still got some problems in it that the Admins want to clean up before they start adding more mineral functions. 'twould probably annoy people if critical issues were put aside in favor of catering to a feature that's already slightly controversial anyways.
But of course, someone who actually knows what they're talking about will probably be along shortly anwyays.
... ahagable.

The old code for all of the 'fun' things on SEN was scrapped long ago because it was full of exploits and all-in-all just a crappy code. That code was only a module to work with Invision Power Board; now that we aren't running it any longer we can't try to re-use the old modules.

As EzDay said, there are a whole host of more essential things that need to be coded besides mineral games like Armies or Zerg Pets. And coding does not happen very quickly, so whether or not it's eventually a good idea, you'll just have to sit tight.

Ah. I assumed it was still there, just off the forum or commented out, and could be brought back in three seconds if desired.

Lock, please?

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[04:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new

Oh_Man -- makes me wonder if SEN knows anything about the topic
