In your second to last scene, your friend had the right idea with his edit. The audience will be wondering about the pants first, answer that. Then redirect them to the offhand comment about the orphanage to make the final scene work.

Something like: "Yes! Brilliant! Without pants, I'll start taking dama... wait, orphanage?"

Just an idea to keep the scenes flowing and not losing your audience.
