The "quick and artful escape" in the beginning of the last paragraph could point to Dapperdan, because he is the moderator of the Creativity forum. It's a pretty weak clue, but just bringing it up.

And since there doesn't seem to be a mayor this game, I vote NudeRaider for lynching (That German accent clue is pretty strong.)

Additionally, it's in the middle of a field away from the town (where most lights would be), the lights in the farmhouse are off (as they turn on during/after the hit), and the moon and a single star don't give off a hell of a lot of light, especially with the bad weather (as the rain intensified over time).
