I know of a good way to maybe help keep this on peoples mind for the people that use XFire and what not....

SEN's XFire Group!

I'd do what I always do with these contests. Take the theme as litteraly as possible, and somehow make a map out of that, and then never submit it. I'd participate in about half of them maybe.

Occasionally, as themes really limit me, since my mind doesn't like boundaries.

I think we need a good host of this contest though.Maybe someone like Moose Or Yoshi.

I'd probably get back into mapping if there was a monthly contest. I haven't really felt the urge to map in a while.

I hate to be so blunt about it, but almost all, if not all of these replies are hollow. I hosted a monthly contest for 2 months, there were about 20-25 people who said they'd participate each month. The first month I had one entry, and the second month I had one which had nothing to do with the theme. Yoshi hosted a map-off, and I was one of the only two participants, with a map made in the 20 minutes of spare time I could find.

In short, people won't participate unless it's already popular. Unless you give it a big kick start like I did to map night, it won't ever go anywhere.

We'll just of Tuxlar join. Then everyone will try to out-do him. It won't be a contest so much as a try-tp-beat-Tuxlar-test.

I usually end up submitting something too late, and/or don't submit 'cause it's not high enough quality.

In other words, I'd probably think about making a map on every contest topic, but actually getting far enough to finish making a map... Limits my maximum entries to occasionally.

If I make a map I win the contest.

That's how it works.

I actually might participate in a contest if one was started.

NudeRaider -- EUD actions, specifically. The conditions remained. Today we can even have actions again, but they're all virtualized/whitelisted (not sure on the actual technical implementation) so you can only use them for specific intended purposed, not arbitrary code injections.

NudeRaider -- I mean yes, maps - through EUDs - were theoretically able to do that as well, but that was patched quickly.

not the map, the editor

Symmetry -- I vaguely remember Voy doing some ACE back in the day, but I had no idea EUDs could do that kind of shit. I am very much catching up on the technology

yeah an editor that isn't allowed to write files sounds rather pointless, so I'd assume it can. Like most other programs too btw. and yes, obviously that's dangerous, but also kinda necessary. MS introduced that virtualization for exactly that reason.

Ultraviolet -- I don't think so. I think they shut that shit down after 1.16, maybe even earlier
