Ultimate Starcraft - Age of Darkness

Ultimate Starcraft - Age of Darkness is an ambitious stand-alone mod, balance patch, and unofficial expansion pack for the original Starcraft and Starcraft: Brood War.

It aims to enhance usability, graphics and quality of life. It also aims improving competitive multiplayer variability and highlight the utility of all units, while keeping compatibility with regular maps and campaigns.

In short, it is the best version of Starcraft, while remaining quite high fidelity to the source material — certainly much more so in both lore and gameplay than Starcraft II.

Objectives

The mod aims to breathe new life into underused and abandoned units and abilities, while remaining completely viable and balanced for competitive gameplay.

There are also a number of quality-of-life improvements, including:
  • Differentiated weapon graphics and additional special effects.
  • More varied building portraits, allowing them to better indicate the type of building being attacked.
  • Other visual and gameplay improvements intended to make units and abilities clearer and more distinct.

There are also a series of lore-friendly and fluffy changes to the game, along with a good number of features that explain the changes while also providing in-universe justifications for them.

The changes are intended to remain generally compatible with custom maps, the original campaigns, and the many user-designed campaigns available for Starcraft and Brood War.

Story

The mod's storyline begins soon after the conclusion of the Brood War.

The infested Sarah Kerrigan has emerged as the dominant force in the Koprulu sector. The remnants of the United Earth Directorate expeditionary force are on the run, while the weakened and recently re-established Terran Dominion once again has Arcturus Mengsk at its helm.

Meanwhile, the Protoss are coping with the loss of their homeworld and facing the challenges of integrating Khalai and Dark Templar societies.

Note: Though the storyline has wiki articles historically explaining the changes in-universe to units, structures, and mechanics, the custom campaign itself has not been added yet. The regular campaigns have been improved, with special care to the "no-build" missions.

Ultimate Starcraft: Age of Darkness — 0.9 full release

NOTE: Age of Darkness is portable and does NOT over-write original data. You can still play regular Starcraft 1.16.1 in the same installation (Starcraft_Orig.exe)
All campaigns made by fans up to 1.16.1 that don't require a special executable/mpqs or use EUD (extended unit death) hack triggers should also be fully usable within Age of Darkness.

I will be posting some updates

After relative... problems, the native resolution expander should now be working

It doesn't need the injection of insect loader .exe, it can work directly from starcraft.exe

Pictured: Old problems

The native resolution expander is better and more stable than the old one, it also includes more resolutions

Resolution-expanded version will be included in 1.0, not in current version

Wow, this mod brings back so many memories! I remember diving into "Ultimate Starcraft: Age of Darkness" with my friends after school. We spent countless hours strategizing and battling our way through the missions. The downloadable feature makes it so much easier to get started—no more searching for CDs! Has anyone else had the same nostalgic experience?

no shit sherlock. I wanted you explain what you mean with time capsule (hence the question mark!), because obviously what follows makes no sense. For someone so intelligent you can be quite daft at times...
