New Computer Issues with WinMPQ

Ok, so I just got a new computer like 2 weeks ago.
It's a wonderful machine. And I got a hankering for the moddin'. Thinking of adding a full Nerazim type of color scheme.
But when I went to reach for WinMPQ, says it couldnt access the registry or something and refuses to work.
Whats going on?

What OS?
Have you tried:
Running as administrator
Installing Visual Basic 4 runtime files
Installing runtime files pack 3
Whatever this says: http://sfsrealm.hopto.org/downloads/WinMPQ.html

Thanks, I ran it as admin and it worked, combined with installing those things.
but now I can't remember which file had all the grps and I even though im pretty sure it's stardat, I only find a lot of unknowns in combination with the dat files and stuff.

Aw shit i got more trouble.
Apparently when I try to extract grps an error pops up claiming it may be in use, when it isnt.

For whatever reason, Gimp isnt letting me export/save, extracting files from MPQs wont happen, and Firegraft wont even open executables I set up using it on another computer.
What's up> does anyone know>

If you have an instance of Starcraft opened, Map editor or whatever that might use the MPQs it might do that. Other than that I'd need more clues.

I've never used Gimp and I am unsure on what are you trying to do.
If you're trying to edit GRPs you won't be able to do that in GIMP or any image editor for that matter. You need to first extract the GRP frames into editable .bmp files so you can edit them with any image editor. You do this usingwhatever tool you prefer like PyGRP, SFGRPConv, RetroGRP, etc..

Now, diagnosing firegraft might be trickier since you're not giving me many information. Can I get an step by step on what are you trying to do and how are you doing it?

Other than that it can be very multiple things, from starcraft not being installed to... anything really :P

sorry, everythings alright now. I figured it all out. I disabled UAC and had to upgrade BW.

for fucks sake, now my Datedit window is being fucky and I can't even access the goddamn weapon sprite list and offsets because the "used by" list on the bottom is taking precedence and apparently has to be 3/4 of the screen before I can stretch it to see the offset values.

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically
