I have a problem as you may already know;).
When I try to open any media file at all it shows up a black screen, but plays the sound.
1. most my vmw files that used to work now have the effect described above: black screen with the proper sound.
2. Same goes for avi. One file used to work a few days ago, now after installing some new codecs it doesn't.
3. I tried many different codecs and updated my gfx card driver, but this still didn't work.
Please, help me <you>. You're my only hope.

The entire screen goes black? Wow, never heard of that before..
Have you tried the monitor with a different PC or a different monitor with your PC? That will help to eliminate your monitor as the problem.
Also please give a little info on your computer such as grafics card, processor, OS, ect

No, just the screen where the movie is supposed to be.
But i fixed it by uninstalling all players on my cpu and reinstalling only does most necessary.

Some type of codec conflict...?
I try to be minimalistic and avoid bundled codecs. AC3Filter + DivX is the only ones really necessary?

If you're talking about in your browser, don't use the VLC browser plugins on Windows.

Make sure your video codecs are updated and for made for your system... Something might have happened to them or you simply might have gotten a certain video file that requires certain codecs...

This problem accured by itself, I didn't install anything new on my cpu. I already solved the problem by sending all the codecs to the negative plane, and then summoning some new.
