STARCRAFT II: HotS - Patch 2.1 Goes Live
--- client update ---

Quote from Kotaku
StarCraft II just took one large step closer to free-to-play.

Patch 2.1, the latest update for Blizzard's real-time strategy game, expands StarCraft II's free Starter Edition to three races and opens up all custom games to absolutely anyone. So if someone uses StarCraft II's map editor to make the next DOTA—which itself was originally a custom WarCraft III map based on a custom StarCraft map called Aeon of Strife—anyone can play it.

So if you make a map or game in the Blizzard Arcade, you can invite all of your friends to play it—not just the ones who own StarCraft. That's pretty damn cool.

The patch goes live today. Blizzard made a funny video to commemorate the occasion—you can watch it above.

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

I've been able to play earlier this day, but since I tried to load an arcade map that I downloaded into the editor it doesn't work anymore. Could be a coincidence because of the patch, but the patching should be long over by now. (11am PST)

When I try EU realm it says I got the wrong version and I should wait until the realm is done patching. How long will that be?
US realm is also down works now.

Anyways, great move from Blizzard and ensured that I will be buying the Protoss campaign. Would've bought Zerg too but I'm worried that I can't play all races then.

I do stuff and thingies... Try widening and reducing the number of small nooks and crannies to correct the problem.

:payne:

Has it ever been clarified how it works about the property over the maps you publish?
If someone was to invent a brand new type of game that would revolutionize the gaming industry... would Blizzard claim property over it? (For example...)

None.

A far cry from that Bluzzard Marketplace they were planning on since before the game launched, but that's a good thing in my book.
