Apart of the appeal of muse to me is the overly sustained vocals, but I can still only listen to them in small doses. It works better with some of their songs over other songs, specifically it sounds better with songs that have a blues undertone (I'd argue most of Muse does).
Some justification is in order: I dropped my initial comment almost immediately because I did not want to instigate and, upon a second thought, House of the Rising Sun has quite a bit of sustained vocalization... which is perfect for Muse in that sense.
Not all whiny/ moaning singing is annoying to me. In fact, I kind of like that Our Lady Peace song.
