I am extending it by 1 day, so that we can work on maps on the 15th as well. Unfortunately I'm unable to update the OP to reflect this (because of some bug).

None.

Can you post in the thread around a day before the competition starts, stating how many hours until we can start working? Time zones are annoying and I'm tired and busy for the next couple of days and don't want to have to think about it.

I'm a girl named Church.

I'm not able to use livestream. Would I be able to record myself as I map using FRAPS or something and put it on youtube for each daily update?

If you can't stream it, you can just post your map each week (or was it day?) here.

Common sense says that since the contest is only a week long, it is a daily task to post your map's progress. Otherwise you'd basically just be posting the finished product.

oh lawls, forgot that it was one week. I think I was thinking of Pronogo's contest. ;O

Master has given Dobby a doctorate! Dobby is free!

Still, I don't like the idea of putting up my map for the world to see, especially if it's not complete. Then again, it's not like too many in the world care about SCI mapping.

Oh, and also don't expect too much. Just found out my brother will be living with us for a bit with his wife and kid (visiting from GA). He's got some time before he gets shipped overseas. Should be arriving Wednesday, so I aught to have some time to poop out as much as I can. No idea when he leaves.

Jul 5 2012, 6:58 pm Kusari Post #31

I guess i'll try a fast-motion video of my mapping (i'll surely forgot to upload the map everyday).
Even if it has shit quality all we need is to prove we made the map during the contest week right?

making some disk space...

You can pm or email your map to me (kaiassc@gmail.com) if you don't want your progress maps to be publicly view-able.

But really, people should just man up. We all know that some people will have more time than others and some people are more experienced than others. Part of why I'm doing this contest is for the fun of seeing each other's mapping processes.

We're using the honour system; that is, we can't prove you started the map from scratch but we trust you to and it's on your honour to do so.

meme

The secret is to take a complete but never released work and go through it undoing roughly 15% of the work at a time and saving the map until you have seven files. Then you submit them in reverse order as your daily progress and win with your map that you secretly put a couple of years into. Solid strategy, amirite?

So, the contest starts "today", midnight? on which time zone? CST, everyone?
And do we have to livestream? If so, I don't know how to do that.
Or do we only have to upload our map daily? If so, where do we upload it?

Sorry for all these questions

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Symmetry -- :wob:

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically
[2026-6-21. : 4:26 am]
Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[2026-6-21. : 4:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings
[2026-6-20. : 6:15 pm]
Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.
[2026-6-20. : 3:47 pm]
NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.
[2026-6-20. : 3:43 pm]
NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new

Oh_Man -- makes me wonder if SEN knows anything about the topic
