"Making an error" is correct, given the context (i.e. if you are making an error in judgement), but most of the time you would say "made an error" in the past tense. Also there is no hyphen in "summer-trip" it would just be "summer trip." And if you want to get technical, that shouldn't be a colon, it would probably be a semicolon instead, if not a comma.
