I guess I should wander around, searching for flashlights, lanterns, candles or firesticks - anything portable that might provide light later on if needed, and take them all. Then I should make some alliances. I guess I should find RaiRai or DevliN. They seem to be the only two people here that like me. :-(

But you know, I should be using my head and watch for traps. Like, if DevliN is standing in a propped open box I shouldn't go over to him. Or if a string is tired to a candle, I'll leave it there. :awesome:
I'm south (according to the map, assuming the bottom is south) of you Kame ;o

Quote from OlimarandLouie
If you tried to kill a person in another room, common sense would say that you would have to walk there first, thus taking up your movement for the turn. If that person is still in there, you will kill them (unless they wanted to "Be Alert and don't die" or something)

I successfully throat-knifed someone in Azrael's TKG from one room away, lassoed Wing Zero around the throat in the dark, and Azrael stated that if I had thrown the wine bottles at LoTu)S from one room away, he would have died since his gun action does not trigger until I explicitly walked into the room. I believe Azrael stated that every player is an expert marksman and has sufficient agility to dodge whatever that they could provided they state it clearly. (I avoided the lawn dart through my eye by raising my arm to block it, for instance. Throwing something at a player who has no defensive options should succeed 100% of the time, while someone who anticipated the attack explicitly would be able to dodge it with 100% success provided it is a reasonable action, e.g. no dodging bullets/avoiding giant metal carts in a narrow hallway/blocking a large flail with your hands.)

The outcomes of actions should be determined by the specificity of the actions rather than the scope by which they cover. A set of actions posted by Roy, for instance, should not be exceedingly effective. Just like in real life, a person who specifically thinks up a defensive option like "If someone attempts to attack me, deliver an uppercut and incapacitate them" will be able to execute it successfully on reaction, whereas someone thinking of "If anyone attacks me, avoid their attack in the most appropriate manner" will require crucial seconds to come up with such an "appropriate manner" in times of need, during which they may very well end up taking the hit or avoiding it ineffectively.

Additionally, your character should NOT move unless you explicitly tell it to. If performing an action requires movement and movement was not specified in the PM, then the action should simply fail, as was the case when Azrael held his TKG.

The 10% miss chance for throwing shouldn't exist either, to be honest. The game should be deterministic rather than driven by chance, otherwise someone failing to secure victory because their knife missed would be extremely pissed.

If there was some balancing of choices to minimize risk, that would an acceptable way to implement chance. 10% really isn't that much, though. Certainly not enough to make it a gameplay-relevant matter of choice.

Fixed

Point taken, I was debating whether to go with specificity or scope when designing this. I came up with my own little system that incorporates both: if you write a ton of "Ifs" and "Thens", in real life this would be seen as taking time to think up each scenario, thus delaying your reaction time should something happen. This also goes for actions that lack specificity, like "avoid any attack in the most appropriate manner" that you said.

If someone says "Move the table to the other side of the room" and he has not specified his movement, he will automatically use it to move said table. Same goes for specifying the correct movement. If he specified a contradicting movement, that takes priority over his action, and thus it would fail.

It exists for a reason, because not everybody is a master knife thrower on their first try. (among other things I cannot tell you)

While I agree that stuff failing due to chance most assuredly occurs in real life, it is a bit of a stretch to implement such a mechanism into a forum game; real soldiers don't hit with every one of their bullets, yet SC2 Marines have no trouble getting 100% accuracy. Even the terrain miss% bonus was removed in SC2 because it introduced an element of chance that could very well disrupt gameplay. Imagine throwing two axes at someone's head and have them both miss; the 1% chance is definitely not negligible and it would frustrate anyone on the receiving end of the bad luck to no end.

(I had one BW game where my initial push completely failed because seven goons could not kill a single unrepaired tank up a cliff. Lost four dragoons to it before the terran pulled an SCV to repair, at which point I had to withdraw. I would have won that game much earlier if chance did not screw me over.)

I'm pretty sure he just meant because he doesn't want to clean his current game PMs and that would fill up the 150 slots he has too quickly.

Unfortunately I have just now found out I will have less than 2 hours total of time to use a computer over the next 4 days due to me going to my grandfather's funeral. (Time extended until next Monday)

66% of test subjects have responded thus far.

Edit: I have processed 55% of all pms sent to me.

Apparently my mother didn't take it very well when she found out I used her credit card to pre-order Portal 2 (It was worth it)
So I'm basically prohibited from using any computer for an unspecified amount of time. I had to sneak on to type this.

If you see my "last active" status keep changing, that is because SEN is my homepage and my little sister uses my computer a lot.
