Woah

THEME

The theme for this mapping contest is SPELLS. The idea here is to come up with completely custom spells/abilities using either the Data Editor or Trigger Editor (though brownie points go to those who use the Data Editor). You can submit more than one spell to the contest, as spells will be individually judged and minerals can be awarded multiple times to the same person if multiple exceptional spells are created

JUDGING

Theme: 10
Did you make a spell? If anyone gets less than 10 on this, I will kill you.

Professionalism: 15
How well is the spell designed? Does it have any bugs? Does it work properly?

Fun: 15
How much fun is it using this spell? Does it make you happy inside? How about on the outside?

Originality: 10
Is this original? Am I going to wish I had come up with the idea, first? Is this basically a duplicated Blizzard ability with changed effects?

Total: 50 points

RULES
  • The map containing the spells must be submitted by March 31st, at 11:59:59 PM Pacific time (PST). They can either be posted here, PMed to me, or hosted at the SEN Database.
  • Any map size is allowed.
  • The map must not have been started before the contest (and as such, the spells should be created in their entirety in March).
  • You may submit as many spells as you want, but there may be a cap to how many you will be rewarded for.
  • No stolen maps and/or spells.
  • No editing someone else's map. The map must have been made by you, and you alone.
  • Team projects are not allowed on this one.

REWARDS

First Place: 100 minerals, 3 Contest Points
Second Place: 75 minerals, 2 Contest Points
Third Place: 50 minerals, 1 Contest Point
Bonus Minerals for Awesome Spells: 10 minerals per spell

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?

Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new

Oh_Man -- makes me wonder if SEN knows anything about the topic
