Any use for this?

Well, as you may or may not know - all of the maps which came with Starcraft 2 (ie... all the melee maps... all the lost viking maps... all the campaign maps...) are stored in a Cache folder. So, it is impossible to go to say C:/games/starcraft2/maps and view all of the maps listed above...

The only way to view a map such as these is to open it from the Data Editor. I find it a little frustrating that the Campaign maps are all called THanson02, TTychus05, TValerian02b etc... I would much prefer it if they were named, as they were in the actual campaign, for example: Belly of the Beast, All in, Ghost of a Chance, Zero Hour, Whispers of Doom etc...

So my question is this: Would anyone find it useful to have a Resource which contained all the melee maps and all the campaign maps in a .zip file?

None.

:payne:

I'm pretty sure I've seen the campaign maps listed somewhere named as they are in the actual campaign, though I can't remember where. :/

You can open the maps in the editor pretty easily and see the real name in the pane on the right.

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
