Trophies for Contests?

Master has given Dobby a doctorate! Dobby is free!

I was trying to sleep for about an hour now, and, lo and behold, sleep deprivation pays off. I was wondering if we could make "trophies", like the

admin icon, for each contest. I would gladly make them, if someone would/could implement it. What I'm talking about is something that may interest people more in participating in contests, if only for the inner joy of having something with a url ending in /contests/SCII/1st.png (or .gif...shudder). Furthermore, upon admin approval, other contests could have custom-made trophies, for a mineral fee paid by the contest host, or the like.

Essentially, I'm asking for another forum feature that could increase mapmaking productivity a little, reduce the amount of mineral transfer (a trophy can count for like 10 minerals or so), and give newer members a way to recognize who's who in SEN mapmaking.

Since I just thought of this, I haven't yet made an example .png, but I would be more than willing to do so if I can get staff interest at the very least. In fact, I'm going to scoot off to make one now.

At the least, I love the idea of letting members pay to create trophies.
New SEN Store Item on the way? :awesome:

Made 115x115, like other store item images. I'd say a reasonable cost would be free to approved contest hosts, and ~1000 minerals for regular users, and extremely rare. Basically, it'd operate much as other enablers do; once bought, it can be sold, but multiple items owned grant no additional benefit.

However, I think having it as a store item would create many problems, one of which would be letting any old SENner get a hold of it, and begin filling SEN with countless trophies. IMO, medal images should be sent to a staff member, along with the thread url and recipient's name. Then, the staffer can upload it to SEN, and award the medal to the proper member. This would reduce bogus medals (as if the proposed high price doesn't already), and make it somewhat regulated.

Comments about the post, the image, anything? I'm personally not liking the .png, it seems like it wouldn't fit that well with the bright rainbows of the new items or duller greens of the old ones.

I really like the trophy! Not quite sure if it should cost 1k...
I'd personally say it should cost 500 minerals at all times, be extremely rare, and it a member can only buy it once. As soon as bought, it is automatically used and shown in the profile.
It'd basically simply be kind of a brag trophy of "Hey, I have enough minerals to waste 500 on this trophy!". :awesome:

I don't think you're understanding what I mean by the trophy. It's allowing you to create medals, like the admin.png in the OP, and to distribute those medals to other members who win contests...not just to say "lol I wasted 500 minerals on this just cuz". And yeah, a 500 minerals price tag does sound better, because the people that would spam it wouldn't be able to get it anyways.

Hawt

But needs more organization before it can fly..

I don't think trophies should be bought by money (unless it's the Golden Cock trophy). They should be for specific things =)

None.

Woah

I don't think something like this will ever happen. There has been talk in the past about giving out trophies for SEN contest winners, but I doubt we'll implement trophies for non-SEN-sponsored contests.

The medal section was for such things as contest trophies, not for weird little 'I am an admin!' trophy.

Right, but SEN Contests, not random member-run contests. ;)

NudeRaider -- EUD actions, specifically. The conditions remained. Today we can even have actions again, but they're all virtualized/whitelisted (not sure on the actual technical implementation) so you can only use them for specific intended purposed, not arbitrary code injections.

NudeRaider -- I mean yes, maps - through EUDs - were theoretically able to do that as well, but that was patched quickly.

Symmetry -- I vaguely remember Voy doing some ACE back in the day, but I had no idea EUDs could do that kind of shit. I am very much catching up on the technology

yeah an editor that isn't allowed to write files sounds rather pointless, so I'd assume it can. Like most other programs too btw. and yes, obviously that's dangerous, but also kinda necessary. MS introduced that virtualization for exactly that reason.

Ultraviolet -- I don't think so. I think they shut that shit down after 1.16, maybe even earlier
