What other mage could I play though that is cheap? Only reason I picked Veigar is because he's cheap and his abilities synergize well with team play. The only other mage I saw was Annie, but her play style doesn't look like she would fit me that well. Edit: The only thing remotely interesting is her 5 cast spells equating to a stun on the next spell cast, but besides that, she looks dull. I find the ability to control a battle through stuns and cc >>>>>>> damage any day, which is why I like the Veigar AoE stun.
Well if you are looking for an AP hero, you could try janna, sion, amumu, or evelyn. But if your looking for a pure mage, ryze is one of the strongest/easiest mages you can play. His ulti CD is EXTREMELY low because of his passive and it makes him do MASSIVE damage in aoe. But he is also just another nuke spam hero.
Why don't you just save points until at least the next time you play, because the next time you play (excluding today) there will be new free champs. You may fall in love with morgana, then save your 1k ip until you hit 3k ip.

I guess I'll wait for tomorrow Raccoon, but I doubt the hero selection will be any better, I've already browsed through most of the heroes and none of them seem really to my liking at first glance.

I just tried playing this and failed it up 3/9/7. AP Sion is actually really hard to manage before you get Lich Bane. If your stun and shield don't kill whatever is hitting you, you're screwed. I will admit, however, that once you get 300+ AP, that damn shield is deadly.
I really wish you would get a Ventrilo server or something, I'd be on 24/7 if the case. And you're only playing LoL again because you're getting dethroned as the most balling roller around.

But the problem is, I can't afford a good enough Vent to suit the needs (at least, the older needs) for our LoL crowd. I've got bandwidth to spare, and I like the skin support and the low usage of resources, so, I'm stickin' it out with Teamspeak.

I've seen some shitty Veigars and I've seen Artanis as Veigar, so I'm on the fence. If you can play like Artanis and kill people in 2 hits, then go for it.
I can vouch for Artanis being a rape Veigar.
On a side note, most champions play the same way, you hit one spell, then hit another, and then another, run during cd and then repeat. It isn't just Veigar and mages that do that. Yes, they do it more, but that is to be expected from mage type champions.
It is true most of the heroes in LoL are totally ique (un-unique, my new word). But some are fun to play like kog maw, when you go on a sniping spree, morde, its fun to have your shield, shaco, JACK IN BOXES, eve, going invisible + ganks, poppy, 1v1ing someone in a 5v1 area, etc. LoL needs more unique and FUN to play characters, but thats never gonna happen. All heroes can be classified generally in like 3 groups.
