So, I'm pretty computer illiterate..

I've recently come across "drivers"
For example, a guy described problems with his new laptop's old "lenovo drivers". This caused him to have trouble playing with games for more than 10 mins. He then proceeded to download the "latest ATI drivers" (his graphix card was ATI Radeon 5730), and then things worked fine.

The laptop he's using is the Lenovo IDeapad Y560 series with i5 processor. The point is.. what are Drivers anyway? What do they do?

None.

We can't explain the universe, just describe it; and we don't know whether our theories are true, we just know they're not wrong. >Harald Lesch

It's a software that tells your operating system how to use your hardware correctly. It's the interface between your OS and hardware.

Here's a copy of a few lines of my motorola driver for my phone. It's literally a text file that tells the system what to do/where stuff is. They're usually .inf files (this one is 9 kB) and not too large. Other stuff (sys files, exe files, dll files) are libraries and executables which are dependencies for the device to work properly. All of that together is the driver.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[04:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new
