Let me show you how to hump without making love.

Who else kind of misses the old days of StarCraft and just wishes we could relive 2003-2006?

Considering I started mapping in 2007 and joined sen in 2008, no.

this in general ;_;

Though if it was starcraft only, sure. I had a clan back and my friends list was actually populated with people who are actually active. qq

An artist's depiction of an Extended Unit Death

My most nostalgic map would have to be Unknown Bound 2; you know, the one where it would play "Queen - Another One Bites the Dust" whenever a Zergling died. A pretty bad map by today's standards, admittedly, but it encapsulates the good times of StarCraft to me.

Woah

Old days, 2003-2006? :><: I started playing in 1999. I wish I could go back to those days, despite UMS sucking.

I started that Christmas when it all went to shit, haha. But I have to admit, everyone seemed to be the most active then, making great maps, socializing and over-all, just having fun doing it. Prime mapping years in my opinion.

I was a total noobage up until very recently, so nah not really.

Though from what I heard of it, it was pretty freaking great. I heard about some clan "Clan Calc" where every member had to be able to mentally calculate tons of stats in instants, like "20 zealots with 30 hp dealing 5 dmg each vs 19 lings 20 hp 10 dmg each, who wins?". I would have so done that. They even had generators of random stats for crap so you could train.

Wouldn't it be great if we could go back in time and teach UMS to the first mappers?

I'd send qPK, Kaias and Lethal back in time to teach them. :awesome:

They'd spend a few days teaching and then move on to something else :massimo:

I wish sc2 was better.
The good ums in sc2 are so hard to find.
And the campaign feels so short.

Praetor

StarCraft 2 is here and I'd have it no other way. I'm into the new, not the old. StarCraft 1 gave me lots of good time, but I've moved on.

Agreed. That doesn't mean I wont be on SC1 tons, but I am against the "Sour Grapes" movement.

I'd go back into the past and pimp slap myself for even thinking of make any more stupid movie maps. Among other things.

I'd go back in time and kill myself, then cause the universe to end in a time paradox.

Then we wouldn't have to worry about this and that! :wtfawesome:

Starcraft 2 is fine, it's the new Battle.net that is simply terrible.

Just Here For The Pie

Hm... Would I relive a time where I was awesome on battle.net but a failure at life itself?

Hell no. However, those were fun times for StarCraft. I will give you that.

NudeRaider -- EUD actions, specifically. The conditions remained. Today we can even have actions again, but they're all virtualized/whitelisted (not sure on the actual technical implementation) so you can only use them for specific intended purposed, not arbitrary code injections.
[06:26 am]
NudeRaider -- I mean yes, maps - through EUDs - were theoretically able to do that as well, but that was patched quickly.

Symmetry shouted: Ohhh imagine a SC map that could delete itself
not the map, the editor

Symmetry -- I vaguely remember Voy doing some ACE back in the day, but I had no idea EUDs could do that kind of shit. I am very much catching up on the technology

Symmetry shouted: NudeRaider Is EUD editor capable of writing shit onto the player's harddrive? That seems like it would be dangerous
yeah an editor that isn't allowed to write files sounds rather pointless, so I'd assume it can. Like most other programs too btw. and yes, obviously that's dangerous, but also kinda necessary. MS introduced that virtualization for exactly that reason.
[2026-7-15. : 4:10 am]
Ultraviolet -- I don't think so. I think they shut that shit down after 1.16, maybe even earlier

NudeRaider shouted: Symmetry I can't tell if it's relevant. You provided literally no context so I was providing an equally generic answer.
