I got these speakers about a year ago, and they've been pretty darn good until now. A while ago they started to shut off when there was a lot of bass in a song, or something like that, and didn't turn back on for about 5-10 minutes. Now, yesterday me and my friend were listening to some crazy techno and they shut off and haven't turned back on since.

What the hell happened and how do I fix it. I've tried taking them apart but they won't come apart.

Maybe the wires are loose or worn. Hardware doesn't last forever, although a year seems a tad short for speakers (unless you blast them). Check the connections and wiggle the cables to see if you pick up any sound.

Edit: Everything comes apart. Some things require more violence than others.

thanks roy. I plugged some iPod headphones into the headphone jack on one of the small speakers and I can hear audio, even though the light isn't on and the speakers don't work without the headphones in.

That probably mean you destroyed the plastic/paper springy thing that produces sound.

Assuming you have electrical wiring knowledge, I'd just open the speakers up and first check for some loose wires. Since the speakers were producing high volume-low frequency waves, it is possible that an already weak solder point might have been broken or a wire detached from socket. Just reattach the wire back into place, if you don't know where to put it back, it is possible to find schematics online.
Another problem could be that the speaker itself got detached from it's frame. If this was the case I'd just buy a new speaker. It is possible to fix it, but there's a very small margin of error and chances are you'd lose sound quality.
If you see a burned spot on the circuit board, you're screwed and there's almost nothing you can do.

You could always send them in for an electronics repair shop and see what the technician says.

haha for sure. in some ways it's even more exciting because you can play EUD maps on regular battle.net, don't need to convince someone to download your mod to play with you. what did you do?
