My boyfriend's mildly bi-polar, so far hasn't caused any real issues for us.

I've never seen piercings make people think I'm a lot less attractive. Maybe mildly, but never a deal-breaker. On the other hand, some girls have said they think the lip piercings are very sexy, so...

If I wanted to get piercings, I would make sure they would be as uncomfortable and painful as possible. Like on my eyes, or something. Or in my arms. Or something.

Also, being bipolar only tends to cause problems for other people when the bipolar person is manic. When they're depressed they tend to just suffer quietly.

Erm, when you're in a relationship with someone that is depressed, it is difficult for both people in that relationship. I mean, duh.

If anything his mania is actually useful.

Everyone is different when it comes to bi-polar, what works for you doesn't necessarily work for others.

Well, a lot of people who are bipolar go undiagnosed because they don't complain and no one around them is at all observant, so they don't notice that they're depressed. That's the kind of thing I'm talking about.

Mania can appear useful at first, generally when it's earlier hypomanic stages, but tends to progress to destructive, dangerous, and illegal behavior, at least that's the case with all the people I know who have had serious manic episodes, myself included.

And, bipolar disorder is a classification, which only some people meet, so by definition, everyone is going to be somewhat similar (in that regard) within that group. It's labeled a disorder for a reason (though a high percentage of highly successful people actually show symptoms of the disorder).
