Hi guys, I'm not a very reputable mapper but I went out of the way and started an RPG. I just started it so don't expect too much yet ;)

Btw, I'm getting acquainted with rectangular terrain.

Dragonball Z: The Saiyan Saga RPG

Storyline:

Following the lines of the classic DBZ world, the basis of the storyline is the exact same. (I hope you've watched the anime) Here I put some added bits of storyline so that I could elongate the map further (because the Saiyan Saga isn't that long). The storyline is self-explanatory and you won't have to read on further if you already know it but for people who don't know here's a summary:

Goku is a powerful warrior living on Earth. He believes himself to be a human but when he visit's a friend a mysterious figure with inhuman power arrives and scowls at him. The figure who confronts Goku explains to him that he is actually of the Saiyan species, the most powerful species in the universe. The Saiyans act as planet brokers, invading planets and selling them to the highest bidder. The new figure additionally calls himself Raditz and Goku's brother. Goku refuses to believe that he is of the species but then his mentor explains that he was found in a space pod when he was younger contradicting his beliefs. Raditz explains that Goku was a baby when he arrived on Earth to take it over, but since Goku suffered a servere injury his original vicious nature was flushed out of him and replaced with a friendly one. Raditz also informs him that the Saiyan home planet of Vegeta has been demolished and he gives him a chance to make up for his not carrying out his mission by demanding that Goku kill 100 Earthlings. When Goku refuses with a tone of finality in his voice, Raditz captures his son, Gohan, and runs off. Starting here Goku and other fellow Earth warriors are thrown into a series of quests.

Players

Goku: Ghost.
Piccolo: Hydralisk
Gohan: Starts as: Drone. Later: Zergling
Tien+Chaotzu: Archon+Probe
Yamcha: Hero Ghost
Krillin: Zealot

Gameplay:

I've moved up from my original Hack and Slash gameplay and added some more flavour into it. Now each player gets four abilities that they can use by building units from their starport. For example all units can fire a Ki Blast by building a Wraith. Gas is the amount of energy a unit has. All units are different and gets unique abilities. Only the Ki blast is an ability that all units have.

Since the Boss battles requires immense concentration and skill (because its going to be difficult) There will be a resurection mini-game included. First you will have to pay a certain amount of gas, then you play a mini-game, if you succeed, you may ressurect a teammate, if you fail, you will have wasted the gas for nothing.

This also combines some elements from DBZ All Sagas, because there will be opportunities to train for deadly opponents, and in addition it's still structured as an RPG.

Progress:

Ideas: 70%
Terrain: 15%
Triggers: 8%
Units: 17%

How do I know this map won't be like one of your silly old simplistic maps?

I have been experimenting with rectangular terrain and now I am not shy to put it to its potential. I intend to use good terrain to extend the gameplay. Also I'm now messing with a newly developed spell system. Additionally, my scripting skills are above average of an average mapper and I've been observing the kind of maps people play these days. Will this actually be good? Only time will tell.

One of the best things about old DBZ RPGs were the dyanmic & detailed cut scenes. Hopefully you can do the same to this map.

NudeRaider -- EUD actions, specifically. The conditions remained. Today we can even have actions again, but they're all virtualized/whitelisted (not sure on the actual technical implementation) so you can only use them for specific intended purposed, not arbitrary code injections.

NudeRaider -- I mean yes, maps - through EUDs - were theoretically able to do that as well, but that was patched quickly.

not the map, the editor

Symmetry -- I vaguely remember Voy doing some ACE back in the day, but I had no idea EUDs could do that kind of shit. I am very much catching up on the technology

Symmetry shouted: NudeRaider Is EUD editor capable of writing shit onto the player's harddrive? That seems like it would be dangerous
yeah an editor that isn't allowed to write files sounds rather pointless, so I'd assume it can. Like most other programs too btw. and yes, obviously that's dangerous, but also kinda necessary. MS introduced that virtualization for exactly that reason.

Ultraviolet -- I don't think so. I think they shut that shit down after 1.16, maybe even earlier
