Who here has a fibre connection? How much does it cost per month if you do? Is it widespread in the US, or maybe just in major cities?

Uhhhh... Pretty sure most cable and stuff today is fibre optics... It's pretty widespread as well, I believe. I also am pretty much sure that all phone lines are currently Fibre optics. No idea about costs.

Pretty much all cable internet providers use fiber optic backbone. So technically I have a fiber connection. My internet bill is like 55 dollars.
I hear verizon fios is like 60 dollars. Its not too different from cable.

Would that be fibre to the door? Or just fibre as the main method, and copper from the 'junction boxes' to your house?

I'm interested both because my area should be getting residential fiber to the door, plus Vi3t's thread made me wonder how common it is.

My cable company is not fiber to your home. It becomes copper somewhere. I do not think there is much difference.

Also it doesn't need to be fibre to your door. The last few meters to your door are used by much less people, so the bandwidth demands are much less. So unless the copper cables are damaged or too old there's no point in replacing them.
But of course the companies advertise that as a glorious step into the future.

I would love to get verizon FIOS, however they aren't in my area yet ;/

haha for sure. in some ways it's even more exciting because you can play EUD maps on regular battle.net, don't need to convince someone to download your mod to play with you. what did you do?
