Anandtech is down, so I thought I'd ask my fellow SENners their thoughts on these three monitors:
AoC,
Acer,
Sceptre.
Ex's comparison:
All are 5ms, 1920x1080, and in the same relative price range.
Sceptre is the cheapest but has reported backlight bleed problems. However I am not one to withdraw from a challenge as there are guides to fix backlight bleeding on the net. The Spectre also has free shipping while the other two do not, further downing the price.
The AoC is .5" larger than the other two, but this isn't a huge difference. The AoC is also the only one to list its panel type, though I imagine they're all TFT, however the Acer lists a lot more specifications than the other two.
The Acer is also the only one with an HDMI port. I may or may not care about this since I use DVI-D, but it may be nice to switch. I do have a DVI-D to HDMI converter around, since my HD4870 1GB Dark Knight doesn't have an HDMI port.
The AoC is glossy. Not sure how I feel about that.
Any thoughts or things I might be missing?
My opinion:
Sceptre -> hell no, I've never heard of them at all (wary), no hdmi port, the 2/3 of the comments said they had to adjust colors, no comments really and one of them is even retarded: "a 21.5 with 1080p is great"
AoC -> only 1 dvi port, no vga, no hdmi, no reviews, doesn't even have full data... wtf?
acer -> I would just think really carefully about getting something from them, as they seem to be the cheap junk company for monitors
LG, Hanns:G, Samsung, or Asus plz
None.
Although one of the higher brands would be nice, I don't have that kind of money right now.
I like the acer one the best because it has energy star but I rather have different options.

I don't pay the electric bill. Power consumption and efficiency has never and will never be an issue for me.

Glossy TFTs look like they have better contrast than they actually have, but reflections can become a problem, especially in bright rooms.
As long as you have DVI-D and a converter to HDMI you don't need a HDMI port.
However I recommend waiting until you can afford a PVA/MVA display because with the TN technology you will be
disappointed. Don't let you fool you by specs saying something about 160° viewing angle. Looking at page backgrounds, StarCraft terrain or similar is really a pain, and forget about image editing. However it's fine for viewing movies and playing games. Usually you don't have plain colors all over the screen there.
What about this Asus (
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236067 ) or either of these Hanns-G monitors (
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254044 or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254039 ) ?
Oh, btw, that AoC is probably a 21.5" -- sometimes they list 21.5" as 22". I don't think there are any 22" 1920x1080 computer monitors. They did the same thing with the 23.6" monitors when they first came out. That monitor doesn't mention the pixel pitch, but on ones that do, you can calculate the size based on the pixel pitch and the monitor's resolution. It is square_root( width
2 + height
2 ) * pixel_pitch / 25.4
Also, TFT (thin film transistor) only refers to the way the LCD is controlled. This is irrelevant, as basically all LCD computer monitors these days would be controlled by TFT. This is how they are even able to have a back-light behind the display, I think.

The ASUS would be fine if it had free shipping. The bigger Hanns may be my best bet since for 14$ more because it has free shipping, it becomes a better deal than the cheaper one.
@Nude
Can't wait, need to buy this week.
Just keep in mind that it says the sale ends today for the larger Hanns-G.
Btw, those 3 monitors I mentioned also all appear to have a certain feature I like for HDMI monitors: the capability to output the HDMI audio to external speakers. Personally, I think all monitors that support audio over HDMI should have at least some way to do this, especially if they don't have good speakers built-in. This isn't as useful for a computer, but it can be useful for connecting other devices that use HDMI for output (especially if they only use HDMI).

That'll be a problem then, I'm ordering tomorrow. The thing is the Sceptre is REALLLLLY cheap, which is why I was so set on it. It saves me a lot of money.
Then you should probably check tomorrow to see if they have any new specials before you order. They might also be having a "Cyber Monday" sale.

AFAIK Cyber Monday hasn't been big since 05/06. I do hope so though. :C
I personally have no experience with AoC or Sceptre, but i have bad experiences with acer monitors. The one i ha most recently would randomly cycle between displaying perfecly and not displaying red colors at all... I mean, at all... It made everything look terrible.
Good choice if you're going with the sceptre, although i personally think glossy screens are much better looking, with the only downside being you have to clean them... a lot.

Checked Cyber Monday Preview from Newegg's facebook. Doesn't look like they're going to do much for me on price, but I'll keep my eyes open. I'll probably be ording in the next 6-12 hours.
Edit: SF, using my requirements of 1920x1080 and price, do you know if TigerDirect or ZipZoomFly has any better deals off hand?
Haha, the message on the Hanns-G was a lie. The sale is still on.
Something odd: the Hanns-G monitors don't show up in the results if you specify to only show monitors with a max resolution of 1920x1080. If you put it in for recommended resolution then it does show up, however.
I also saw these two on TigerDirect:

Look for a cashback link at the top of these search results:
http://www.bing.com/search?q=newegg&go=&form=QBREThis is of course probably only available for a limited time; basically until the funds for it run out, from what I've heard. Also, it seems the link only comes up randomly, so keep doing the search until it comes up. After clicking the link you should see below the categories, "This session is eligible for 10% Bing Cashback. (see conditions)"

It looks like the 10% back for Newegg has expired, but you could check the search results a few times on Bing just to be sure. TigerDirect and Zipzoomfly also participate in Bing Cashback, along with various other sites.
I don't know whether you've used Bing Cashback (formerly Live Search Cashback), but it is basically like a rebate in that you have to wait two months to get it. Unlike a rebate, you don't need to send anything in (they just need an e-mail address to tie it to) and you typically don't need to wait long to find out whether it went through (probably a few minutes to a day at most, usually). The 60 day waiting period is to make sure you are unable to get the money back and then return for a refund (according to the terms it can be up to 90 days, depending on the store's return policy).

I do not use MIR/Bing/any other bullshit, because it isn't worth the expenditure of meticulous form filling and effort for a measly few dollars. But thanks anyway SF.
I'm actually pissed because the checks I deposited on Saturday still haven't cleared and its 1:30am Tuesday. If they don't clear by noon today I am going to be extremely angry.
Just placed an order for the larger HannsG and an ABS FX7 headset.
Thanks for all the help.
You only really need to fill out some things just one time to register and it isn't particularly time consuming. You just do a Bing search for the store to see if there is any percentage you could get or go to Bing Cashback and look for the store. Either way you find it, you will get a link that will make Bing Cashback active for that session on the store site. I think a link from a Bing search is more likely to have a higher percentage than looking through the stores list, so you probably could generally check only that. Once this is done, you simply need to make the purchase while the cookie for Bing Cashback is active. There is nothing you need to send to them and you will get an e-mail notification when the funds are available to be transferred or mailed to you by check. It definitely takes less time and effort than a regular rebate.
There wasn't any cashback deal for Newegg when you purchased anyway, so saying this means nothing at least for that purchase.
