While using my computer as an effects processor, I've discovered that my motherboard's built-in sound has annoyingly high latency- about 50 ms round trip. Can any of you suggest a cheapish (<$50) sound card which has much lower latency (hopefully less than 15 ms one way)?

What inputs/whatever do you need? I mean an Audigy SE is fine for sound and stuff but I don't know what exactly you're doing.

ALL PRAISE YOUR SUPREME LORD CORBO

Have you tried using ASIO as audio driver? It works for me, cuts down the latency. Found out that it was windows the one that produces the latency in most cases.
Depending on what program/method your using to make your computer an effects processor ASIO might or might not be supported, though. There's a couple of great programs like record & reason that support it and have awesome effects (plus ability to get moar) and nice recording features.

I use this, since it was required for me to install FL Studio. I've never had problems with anything sound related after installing this.

If you're using it as an effects processor, you should be using a proper Firewire connection to a mixer to reduce latency as much as possible while retaining sound quality. What precisely are you trying to do and with what gear?

I don't care particularly about sound quality. If I had the kind of money for the setup you're talking about, I would have the money for a decent standalone effects processor.

I'm not using Reason or Guitar Rig (I refuse to pirate both because I have too much respect for their developers), so ASIO4All isn't much help to me.

ASIO4All is also compatible with FL Studio which can be used as an effects processer iirc.
