I think the death of Geocities heralds the end of Web 1.0. But I already miss it. I spent countless hours in middle school and early high school putting together a site...and then I spent twice as much time in the past year trying to find the damn site. So I'll miss it.

I'm sorry this is such a big deal to me. Its because of Geocities (and my leet 'Webmasters' club in middle school) that ultimately led me to the internets. It was like a gateway drug. Well no, hypertext was the gateway drug.

Spree.com, something that probably existed even before geocities, died a long time ago. It was sad because it was the first host that held a web page from me.
Can't believe geocities is dead though.

Hardly. I got my first trojan a decade ago off someone's lovely Geoshites site. That event about sums up the length and breadth of my nostalgia with it.

I had 2 accounts in my original attempts to make a website for Geocities. It sucked, it honestly did, their bandwidth limit was horrendous and their site maker is what made my website originally horrible looking. I won't miss it.

Googlepages, on the other hand, I might miss a bit, not to mention I need to get all my stuff off their server and onto the new one before they transfer it over to Google Sites, a horrible feature that doesn't even allow external javascript/CSS...

Imagine if google suddenly says they're on bankruptcy and they'll shut down ALL their services

I'll miss Geocities. I too remember the days trying to make a page with it, and the free service. Such a.. Tiring, yet memorable experience it was.

I don't really miss it. I tried to make a website on it once, but got bored, and I think I used CJB or something afterwards until I got my own hosting.

Yes. Countless pages have I visited on GeoCities... ;o They were awful (to put it nicely, even), but they were the websites I'd see mostly.

I will miss Geocities in that it is the end of an era, and a lot of sites which I used back when I modded Escape Velocity were hosted there and will now pass away into non-existence. However, the majority of sites on there were horrible to look at and reminded me of the kind of shirts Screech wore in Saved by the Bell.
