It's sending them in batches of e-mail addresses which seem to be organized alphabetically - it obviously isn't Merrell's personal e-mail, but we're proposing that perhaps his MSN contact list was hijacked when he had the messenger virus.
That it got me, too means it had to be an older member. I don't think I've added more than two people since the beginning of the year - so its probably merrell.
I don't know why we're still discussing this. Its not invasive.

Because I think Devlin is right and SEN's email database is secure (enough). I don't even know how a bot would get at it. There is msn/email accounts in profiles, but I doubt someone is going to register at sen and to steal data, we aren't that big ;o

The spam I got over IM was definitely from your account. I don't know how these scams work (spoofing of some kind maybe?) but when I logged into MSN there was a message waiting for me from someone called Merrell in my contacts list. I doubt there are any other Merrells.

I know you showed me the log, but are you sure the email was the same? Some of them could easily mimic my alias.
If so: I scanned my entire computer with the most recent version of Trend Micro's Housecall and nothing was found.

You use an anti-spyware? I just check Task Manager's Processes tab; if I see any programs that neither I nor Google recognize, I seek them out and delete them immediately. Generally, only hardcore viruses try to hide from good ol' TaskMan.

There's a virus (call it whatever) that takes your msn password / uses your msn program to mass spam your contact list with crap.
It's not a spoof, because they wouldn't have your buddy list. Whoever is the one sending the messages, they are at fault.
I don't see how it would be so hard to make the same thing but harvest your msn emails. Which I believe to be the case here.
