The sword and the faith

Any comments on actual gameplay guys? I mean has anyone taken the time to get a game in on it yet? Come on.

Well, besides you stomping me a couple of times during testing Ex, like I said on Nibbits, the map is very polished, and a definitly worthy redo of a map from years past.

You should see the terrain update coming in .90. I even added a new wonder for the Iron Age so it now has 3 instead of just 2. Some of the best terrain I've done yet, can't wait till I finish it.

You can thank the terrain compilation for just about every piece like that.

Oh, Lol.

I try to not use the terrain compilation, so that I am sort of forced to create unique terrain.. But I do use it to create something just so I have something to work on at times.

Lingie and I did some testing today, and everything's going great.

We have also just reached the 1000 doodad mark. I expect 2-3k total by release. :)

Current doodad count is 352. I could get to 1800-2000 by tonight depending on how much I get done today.

Here's a shot:

Lots more doodading to do. Lots. I think after I finish the doodads I want to start putting in more extended depending on how much room there is.

Terrain and trigger work for .90 has been completed. Pending testing, release will be in less than 24 hours.

Thanks to a Nibbits mod who shall remain azala abusing his position, D:E was removed from nibbits about 10 minutes before .90 was released. I was robbed of my #1 slot of the map list, which I worked rather hard to get.

I brought the project back online, and you can get D:E there.

I'd like to ask my fellow SENners to help me overcome this biased moderator. If you could download the map @ nibbits and rate it, I would appreciate it.

You can view Azala's apparent contest of the issue here.

One question Ex. I have seen this before in Rise of True Rome.
Will there be any chance that units cannot attack due to the overuse of sprites?

Example: Carthage's Chariots wont fire because of the sprite limit.

None.

Oct 4 2009, 10:15 pm Excalibur Post #33

The sword and the faith

No, we are well within the sprite limit.

Edit: Nibbits admin dcramer has rectified the situation and D:E 0.84 once again has the top slot. .90 is up there and I'd still appreciate your download + rate.

I personally like the game's pacing, and a few people have noted they didn't like the drone management, which I think is a real key feature.

I admit it has a lot of differences from both Civ and Diplo. The early game is slowed down and your economic basis in the Bronze age is what will either allow you to flourish or be sorely broke in Iron and Gold. I like these elements and how you need to be aware of your expansion in relation to your enemies positions. The map goes a lot more for tactics than the maps it is based off of, and its a direction I enjoyed a lot. I'm sorry if you guys didn't.

After reading the entire first post I realize my problem was probably a lack of knowledge about the map. If I had another go with what I know now it wouldn't take me half an hour(no joke, not fun) to reach iron age. The problem was zero mission objectives or any type of guidance as to how to play the game, so we had to go with intuition, and the map is definitely not intuitive. I'm sure you're going to add some type of guide by v1.00.

Quote
Gas is used to create troops and minerals,
How is gas used to create minerals? I had way more gas than I could ever hope to use from my 4 extractors, but next to no minerals.

I find it a bit too linear that upgrading my ling attack 1 or even 2 levels has no effect on my situation since I still deal .5 damage to everything enclosing me in.

Also, I saved up 1.5k for monarchy but nothing happened when I placed my philosopher on it. Think I already had it I tried to do anarchy, and nothing again.

Also, Jerusalem's 2nd closest geyser to the left has a broken path probably due to extended terrain.

Also, Jerusalem's dual-sunken cliff geyser's pathing is completely broken making it impossible to return gas from it.

Also, I'm finding lings are useless compared to hydras.

Also, Jerusalem's north most geyser is unplace-able.

-If you could make me a briefing, or if you'd like to give me a list of things it should include, I'd appreciate it. As someone who made the map, its hard for me to see what players don't understand or what common mistakes are.

How is gas used to create minerals? I had way more gas than I could ever hope to use from my 4 extractors, but next to no minerals.
-I usually say mine from your 3 closest and if you need more than that you're using too many drones too early. Extractors give 1 min/sec, Refineries give 2 min/sec, Assimilator gives 3 min/sec.

I find it a bit too linear that upgrading my ling attack 1 or even 2 levels has no effect on my situation since I still deal .5 damage to everything enclosing me in.
-The correct way to play is not to upgrade units that don't share your special unit's upgrades and do not upgrade anything before getting to Iron.

Also, I saved up 1.5k for monarchy but nothing happened when I placed my philosopher on it. Think I already had it I tried to do anarchy, and nothing again.
-Governments are TBA.

Also, Jerusalem's 2nd closest geyser to the left has a broken path probably due to extended terrain.
-Screen or better description of location please.

Also, Jerusalem's dual-sunken cliff geyser's pathing is completely broken making it impossible to return gas from it.
-If you mean the one I think you do, you shouldn't be mining that far out in the first place. Seriously. Screen or better description of location please.

Also, I'm finding lings are useless compared to hydras.
-Everything has tradeoffs. Hydras cant be massed as much and cost more.

Also, Jerusalem's north most geyser is unplace-able.
-Screen or better description of location please.

Feel free to unprotect the map to show me things. Thank you for your bug report and help.
Edit: Updated screenshot if you want to just circle the problem geysers on there.

.92 has been released!

I've fixed a number of tech, terrain, pathing, and general issues in the map. The next few versions will include tutorials/helpful hints/ect. once I can find someone to help me out with them.

Once again, requesting your downloads and ratings, it really means a lot.

Thanks to Nibbits having upload problems with anything not protected by Uberation 2, and since Ube2 corrupts the map, you'll have to get it here.

Yes it is, just using a different protector since I don't have to worry about it agreeing with Nibbits.
