Warhammer 40k was created in 1987.
Warcraft came out in 1994.
Starcraft came out in 1998.

And as far as the DoW2 vs SC2 thing goes, I haven't played either so I can't tell. Like Sael, I spent more money than I should have at Games Workshop, and I personally became very invested in the lore of 40K. Simultaneously, I love the lore of SC as well. I don't care that the Terran are replicas of Space Marines and the Zerg are replicas of the Tyranids. Both games are great.

Just downloaded the DoW2 demo. I really really really liked it. And you can definitely see the resemblance between an assault squad and reapers. Good times.
