Well, I never saw this used before, So I thought I may give it a shot, and post it, see if it was a new blend or not - I found this while trying to make my RPG map for the 2009 challenge.
Now, to figure out how to post the friggin image here...

I've seen it used before, however it is a pretty uncommonly used blend, especially stacked like that.

Personally, it reminds maybe one or two maps (a FF one and a zombie one), but I think it's pretty much new.

Although the blend is not new, it is not used mainstream. If you fix up the few patches here and there, it could look a lot better.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically
