I extracted and converted some diablo 2 effects for use in AO that will not be used now that the project is canceled.
I hereby give permission to members of MM to use these converted bmps under the condition conversion credit is provided to me.You will need to apply transparent palettes to these graphics to get them to appear correctly in starcraft. They were intented for mass use as effect overlays and weapon effects as well as auras and just effects in general.
I also have some Lineage 1 effects but I'll hold off releasing those.

Those are fantastic bmps. Who will be able to make use of them? We shall see.
Someday I will finish my PEAI mod, but who knows. I have ported a lot of creatures and animations from dozens of games, but very little effects so to speak. 2 of those effects were on my list of "to rip" but never got around to plucking them. Thnx for sharing.

How does one go about applying a transparency palette to these? I'm no good when it comes to graphics D:

Make a script (easy, record, apply palette, save into scripts-> trusted), apply Ofire or Bexpl or Bfire or something like that from farty's palpack. Save as sc-compliant bmps.
Compile with SFgrpconv

Get a good gif editor and convert the .bmps to .gif format. From there you can globally change the transparency as well as move shit around etc. Converting back to Starcraft format simply use Smkr tools and the "palette" of a background SC image.
Avoid using #000 as a transparent color. It doesn't lend itself well to copy/paste because there are too many other colors that are very dark and similar. Better is a color that is more unique to the palette such as neon green etc.
Use
Dr.Test.exe for ripping other graphics from Diablo2 and its expansion. It is the best MPQViewer for Diablo2 period. There are literally tons of great effects and overlays that can be ripped from diablo2. With a decent .gif program + smkr tools converting a Diablo effect to starcraft is childs play.
