I tried to create a new topic, but ran out of characters, even though it said I had 2000 available. What's going on?

On the subject of character limits, the javascript for the numbers updating causes my typing to go really slow, like I have to wait for it to catch up, I used Greasemonkey to remove it, but I was wondering if anyone else had this.

It's happening to me on Firefox 3, in safe mode.
