Gerrard, some people want to see what the map looks like before they play it.

And other people realize that screenshots contain next to no real information about a map, and that the obsession with screenshots promotes bad mapping values (dogmatism of form, spending too much time on aesthetics so that fewer good maps are completed, and focusing on a "pro" appearance instead of remaining with the forms with which SC units best interact, to name a few) and bad community values (rejection of potentially fun maps on the basis of irrelevant aesthetic factors, refusal to read map descriptions [which are far more informative, if written in detail] in favor of screenshots, and suppression of a mapper's option to deliberately limit map information for dramatic/creative reasons, to name a few more). Not to mention, screenshots make the thread load more slowly. So don't put them in if you don't want to.

NudeRaider -- EUD actions, specifically. The conditions remained. Today we can even have actions again, but they're all virtualized/whitelisted (not sure on the actual technical implementation) so you can only use them for specific intended purposed, not arbitrary code injections.

NudeRaider -- I mean yes, maps - through EUDs - were theoretically able to do that as well, but that was patched quickly.

not the map, the editor

Symmetry -- I vaguely remember Voy doing some ACE back in the day, but I had no idea EUDs could do that kind of shit. I am very much catching up on the technology

Symmetry shouted: NudeRaider Is EUD editor capable of writing shit onto the player's harddrive? That seems like it would be dangerous
yeah an editor that isn't allowed to write files sounds rather pointless, so I'd assume it can. Like most other programs too btw. and yes, obviously that's dangerous, but also kinda necessary. MS introduced that virtualization for exactly that reason.

Ultraviolet -- I don't think so. I think they shut that shit down after 1.16, maybe even earlier
