Seven Suns v2.mp3

The first version had no drums.
Used Finale Notepad 2008.

What do you think of it?

Oh yeah, I also made it past the 2 minute mark for the first time. Hooray!

Just Here For The Pie

I like it, it makes me think I am playing an old Nintendo game, Super Nintendo even. It sets the mood for a crisis level / pre-boss battle. The bridge was quite a twist, were the music begins to die and come back almost like a bit of a throw off for a fadeout, but an interesting twist indeed.

Are you planning to make a game with this music you have been making, whether it be a StarCraft or some kind of programmed game?

None.

It sounds to me that it's the actual boss battle itself.

Thanks for the comments! It's a learning experience, and it's great. I suppose you guys like it too, so, awesome.

Possibly. However, I really doubt it.

Are you using MIDI from your card through the program you use?

None.

I think so. I actually have no idea. All I know is that most of the time MIDI sounds really cheesy and sadly fail, but it doesn't play from the computer. I think. Ah well.

I'll look into Fruity Loops.

:P MIDI is the file type used for Doom 1 & 2 music.

MIDI is a standard for synthesizers, not a synthesizer itself. A MIDI file will sound different using (for example) the Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth versus the SBLIVE synth, but the only difference will be the instrument set*. And then we get into strange shit like XG which I won't bug you with and really don't know much about myself.

FL Studio is retarded for MIDI, don't use it if that's what you've been dealing with**. On the other hand, if you're working from samples or soundfonts, it's an excellent choice.

*This is ignoring some System Exclusive events which will only work in MSGS, such as the hidden banks et cetera, and there are some differences in how the percussion is handled between synths - i.e. an MSGS closed hi-hat event will stop the open hi-hat sound from playing, while in the QuickTime synth this will not be the case.

**Except if you need to do pitch bends and your existing program won't let you. There's also Jazz++ for that as well, but save a backup copy of your song before you try to use this because I've noticed a distinct tendency on its part to randomly delete events. Also, it creates a MIDI Type-0 file which can have some compatibility issues.

NOTE: The free version of FL Studio won't let you save your project, and importing a MIDI flattens ALL the pitch bends, so make sure you do all the bends last and in one go.

LOL, I actually sound like I know something of what I'm doing :D

EDIT: Can't listen to the file right now, but I think Finale uses MIDI, possibly with its own VST but probably not.
