Hey,

Has anyone gotten StarForge to work on Windows Vista? It won't run for me, either the installer or the actual app itself... :( It was such a good editor too....

Use SCMD. It's fully compatible with Vista and is much more reliable. Do you need to use SF? If so, why?

Preference.
Farty, Distort and I all have a very strong preference for StarForge's terrain interface, among other things.
If there does happen to be some conveniant fix without screwing over the program, then it could very well be worth Moptop's time to implement it.
Unfortunately, I have none to suggest, myself.

I would have to second this, SCMDraft's terrain editor is nice, but leaves something to be desired. It also has certain limitations in editing which seem rather odd (player colors?)

As a comprehensive map editor, though, it is much better (for one thing, it previews sprites, units, and terrain much better than SF).

I have found that SF corrupts your map more often, and if you use one, you can rarely use the other.

I only use StarForge for screwing around with sprites.

SCMD... Is that SCMDraft? That's a great one but it is alot harder to do triggers on it, versus StarForge....

I've never experienced such a thing except maybe once, and that was when I was newer to it. StarForge has little intricacies that just take a bit to get used to because a portion of it was written in Visual Basic.

SF is fine for me with vista, though I rarely use it except for triggers...

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
