Actually given v5's layout and the lack of those stupid post bars (the green ones), a banner or rank bar unique to each level of Staff would probably go well under user titles.
I think that would be the best way to do it. It also wouldn't be too distracting. Giving them an icon visible in the currently online list makes them seem too special
