Why does the Dark Archon's feedback ability sometimes doesn't kill a targeted unit? In a map I was playing it would kill a high templar in one sitting, but when I remade it took 2-3 feedbacks to kill the hight templar. Is it random or something?

I think it's damage is based on the target's energy ammount. If the target got 200 energy, it deals 200 damage. Not completely sure if this is how it works though, never really used the Dark Archon for anything but Mind Control.

We do a little trolling

Feedback takes the unit's current energy, then drains it and deals that amount of damage to it. If the unit has 5 energy, it's only going to do 5 damage.

Impossible Ultraviolet | Impossible UV 2 | Impossible UV 3
Mercenaries 2020 | Mercenaries III
Squad Defense

Legacy Projects (No guarantee of functionality in modern SC):

Pixel Adventure 2 | Space Snipers | Control the Ball

Yeah.. it's the same in WCIII. It's a pretty useful skill and can be used to deal a lot of damage to units like battlecruisers. And, I think it can 1HKO a wraith as well?

If the Wraith has over 120 energy, it can.

You also had one when you compared it to WC3 as if WC3 was made first.

You, my dear Chuiu, had a crazy moment when you misread my post there and saw a timeline.

We all get a bit insane once in a while, I guess :).

Yeah.

Plus, WC3 Mana Burn typically has a cap (i.e. it burns up to 75 or 100 or whatever mana) whereas Feedback doesn't--it just burns all of it.

... That's what mana burn is? Wow, I've been wondering that since that episode of South Park came out. :P

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[2026-6-21. : 4:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.
