For those who haven't heard of Project Revolution, it's a mod/program that transforms WCIII into SC. They've been working for three years, and have finally posted a demo:

This was actually 25 days ago, but I just noticed :P. Enjoy.

Part one of a video they released: http://youtube.com/watch?v=KjFubYrZ8Ws

I remember seeing this back when it was still the WC3 textures, so it was almost cartooney, but they've retained an almost identical to SC look that I kinda like, though I don't see the point if it looks exactly the same, especially considering 1. It's not like it costs any real amount of money to play SC and 2. SC2 is already announced and in the alpha stages.

meme

I thought the point WAS to update the graphics.

Why didn't Comsat require tech at the start but then suddenly got grayed out later? :P

Eh. I believe in 'em! They'll work it out eventually.

I think this will be useful when, after playing SCII, players will go back to SC and become disheartened by the relatively horrible graphics. There'll be a fantastic alternative: Project Revolution. For an extra forty dollars (if you don't have WCIII - you should), you get the original SC gameplay on graphics comparable to those of SCII. Not the same level, but comparable.

The thread was primarily for the release of the Demo, which isn't horrendously old. Only a month or so.

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[2026-6-21. : 4:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.
