Alrighty, since we don't have a current Mafia running, I figured we might as well get a quickie in. I know what you're thinking, "'Shoutbox Mafia', he says?". In the traditional style of Mafia (not SEN style), the day/night cycle would be quick and dry, giving a Mafia game that will hopefully run in under half an hour.
General gameplay:
Team compositions would be determined by those present and willing to play. After a sign-up period of 10-15 minutes, roles of townies, doctors, and mafia will be dispersed accordingly (likely via PM). Games will start on the "night" cycle, such that Night 0 is the first night, during which mafia discuss who to hit and doctors protect who they wish. A shout will be made after 2 minutes, announcing if/who was killed, and that (since it's nearing summer in the northern hemisphere ) day will end in 3 minutes. During the day period, players are to discuss (via the shoutbox) who will be lynched, and a running tally will be kept. At the end of the 3 minutes, the player with the highest votes will be lynched, and another 2 minute nighttime will begin. In the event of a tie, the player voted for first will be lynched.
Specifics:
- Things meant to be kept private (doctor protection, mafia hits) should be communicated via " /w [name] <message> " or " /a <message> " in the shoutbox, to prevent accidental responding (/r does this) in the event of a sneaky person attempting to ninja a shout. Mafia discussion could also be done via the PM system, to allow communication between multiple players, but any/all night actions will only be accepted from a shoutbox whisper to me.
- There are no clues. Not only do the extremely short turns prevent any decent clue-making, explicitly stating this will hopefully prevent people from making interpretations. This means the night results will be something similar in nature to " Megatron was killed! ", or " Nothing worth noting happened last night. ".
- Players are expected to be present and available for the entirety of the game. Going AFK is punishable by a face from me.
- Mafia only have one communal hit. While each mafia can vote for whoever they wish, only the player receiving the majority vote will be lynched. However, this means that tie votes for hits are bad. In the event of an even number of mafia, a "godfather" will be appointed to break ties each applicable round. His vote counts for two "regular" mafia votes, but otherwise has no power.
So, since I have a (probably) entirely free day Friday the 4th, let's see who is interested, and what times everyone is willing to play at. Future dates are TBD.
