Official version requires money...ANYWAYS

http://www.magicworkstation.com/

I'm wondering if anyone plays magic the gathering? With this you can play online although their are some draw backs.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_Workstation

for one rules are player enforced but the community is full of legit players looking for real games. I'm pretty sure, through manual patching, they have all cards up to the Zendikar set which means no Worldwake (I personally have a Worldwake "flyover" starter deck IRL lul). I usually only play with the starter decks the game comes with as looking through the ENTIRE library of cards and individually pick and create my own custom deck to be... almost impractical. It's really meant for people who have decks in mind as the interface on deck building for people with no experience is horrible. Anyways go look up the magic rules, learn how to play and then we can game. It's a nice little time waster is anything.

Uh for the sake if anyone cares to meet up I usually play under "MadZ"

Also If i read correctly this kind of program supports CUSTOM cards so technically (just throwing it out there) someone could make SEN cards and then someone else can put up a server and we could be playing SEN: Teh gathering. Just saying. ;o

I have MWS, although I don't use it much.
Essentially, it is just a program that allows people to play any card game using the MTG card format. All "cards" and images are added separately. Some nice people scan/type/make all the MTG cards and let the public dl it.
After that, you can do w/e. There are no rules in MWS, however, there is a lil' box (top right, I think) that logs every action a player does. So if you cheat/break a rule, it's obvious to the other player.

Essentially you do all the logic, and MWS just provides a visual between you and another person.

Can you draft in MWS? Playing prebuilt with every card available for $0 isn't that fun :/

I have yet not read any sort of thing that requires me to pay to draft, although I have not tried it because I don't have the knowledge to make my own decks.

It does come with it's card library editor so i'd imagine you could.. ;o

http://mwsdata.com/ if installtion is a problem. when you download the library your supposed to access it when you go to online play look for the folder you downloaded from step two. Pre constructed decks should be in there if I remember.

NudeRaider -- blessed innocent soul knows nothing of the strife we had before EUDs were discovered :teehee:

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?

Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new
