I got Windows 7 and now WinMPQ won't run. I installed VB40032.dll or whatever it asks for, but it gives an error about the registry instead now. Help?

EDIT: The exact error is "Error accessing the system registry".

Make sure it's running under administrator.

Red classic.

You could still be missing mscomctl.ocx or might not have it registered. Unfortunately, I don't think it works to simply put that file in the same folder as WinMPQ.

ALL PRAISE YOUR SUPREME LORD CORBO

I do think he has to register it.

put it in windows\system32
winkey + r and type in
regsvr32 mscomctl.ocx

it should yell that it registered succesfully.

Also, that's only if you don't have a x64 proccesor. For x64 the registering is different.

fuck you all

I'm getting an error when I try to register the .ocx file. And yes, I did download it and put it in the right place.

PyMS and ProTRG developer

Use PyMPQ?

Feb 5 2010, 3:27 am Biophysicist Post #7

Meh. WinMPQ has the ability to open files directly from the MPQ and a working rename function so I'd rather have it working.

You can open files directly from PyMPQ too. The rename should only not work if SFmpq says it didn't work. Are you sure you don't have the MPQ open in something like DatEdit when trying to modify it? The only thing that PyMPQ doesn't have (aside from possibly the rename thing) is being able to drag files from explorer into the list, but if you can't use WinMPQ then...

Are you using a 32-bit or 64-bit version?

DarkenedFantasies -- Probably just didn't care. For example, at some point before release, they've updated the graphics of some of the Protoss buildings (Forge, CyberCore, Citadel, Observatory, Arbiter Tribunal), but instead of properly re-rendering them with edited 3D models, they did crappy copy-paste jobs on the rendered graphics.

Ultraviolet -- I suppose we'll likely never know, but my guess would be that they already saw it operating successfully and there was no monetary incentive to finish the original work. And the dev cycle in old school Blizzard was so hectic, it's possible it just got forgotten about after the original game got released. Plus there's an element of existing MPQ files that were packaged with the original discs becoming outdated if they updated it. And it's not like they remade the original MPQs, they just made new ones for BW specifically

Oh_Man -- so that makes me think maybe the theory they are unfinished is not true and its a deliberate design decision, coz why not finish them wen ur making brood war?
[2026-6-21. : 4:25 am]
Oh_Man -- the thing is thos buildings are from classic. that means they went ahead and made brood war without ever finishing the 'unfinished' buildings

Ultraviolet -- Yeah he's talked about a lot of that stuff in his casts before. It seems plausible. Especially knowing how Blizzard of yesteryear operated.

NudeRaider -- to clarify: couldn't recall the behavior for every single Protoss building but I was aware the disparity exists.

NudeRaider -- Contained nothing new for me. Didn't know all building's behavior, but very much all unit's. Also Terran balance whine - also nothing new

Oh_Man -- makes me wonder if SEN knows anything about the topic
