Ashamed's character is not, nor has ever been, a ninja. He is indeed Sepiroth from FF series, and he has said such before.
His sword is called masamune, and this is his description [wikipedia]: "He has long platinum hair and bright cyan eyes with cat-like pupils, and is portrayed in a black coat decorated with metallic pauldrons."

Pauldrons are a component of plate mail that cover the shoulder [also wikipedia--yeah, I didn't know what those were either].



Further inspection has forced me to recant on my previous accusation...my vote is now Urahara (Kisuke).
His name is from Bleach [a show which I love, btw], and in that show, the main characters have some magical powers. They dress like ninjas, have a code much like ninjas', and can't be seen by most mortal humans IIRC. They're called Shinigami [literally Death God], and Urahara in particular was once the captain of the main research squad in this show. This is all from memory, so correct me if I'm wrong, please.

Yeah, he lead a research squad, blah blah blah, was exiled for doing experiments which gave shinigami hollow(evil creatures) powers

Err, actually this is useless, as there are no power roles. We'd need a cop or something to make this a viable strategy.
Actually, scratch that, Sensei Hatsumi and Doctor should PM Dark_Marine, mostly Sensei Hatsumi since DM can actually confirm the identity of Sensei Hatsumi. Then there will be two townies who know each other.
